Dodge Ranked Top Automaker

Every year, J.D. Power and Associates performs a survey of new vehicles’ overall reliability by brand, called the Initial Quality Study. In 2020, Dodge landed the number one spot out of 31 competitors, and in doing so became the first domestic brand in the study’s 34-year history to hit that milestone.

The IQS looks at current model year vehicles and takes note of the problems drivers experience during their first 90 days of ownership. The organization then breaks the issues down by the number of instances per 100 vehicles. The lower the number, the better.

In 2020, Dodge scored an impressive 136 points, tying for first place with Kia. It bested domestic challengers like Chevrolet by five points, GMC by 15, Ford by 58, and the industry standard by 30. Even though it wasn’t eligible for ranking due to J.D. Power’s requirements, it also bested Tesla by a whopping 114 points.

Several of the automaker’s vehicles were ranked in the top three for their respective categories, including the Charger for the Large Car segment and the Durango in the Upper Midsize SUV segment.

In response to the accolade, Mark Champine, Head of Quality, FCA – North America, said, “These results reflect the relentless, whatever-it-takes attitude of our team. Our complete focus is the customer and these outcomes reinforce that we are on-target. The team is going to be inspired and motivated and will continue to push forward.”
