All-New Dodge Viper Could Be in the Works

Sports car fans, rejoice—the much-beloved Dodge Viper could be coming back soon. Production of the legendary performance car was brought to a close for the 2017 model year, but rumors are swirling across the auto industry that the all-new Dodge Viper could be baring its fangs once more by 2021.

According to Car and Driver, the Viper might come back without one of its trademark features. It’s rumored that a next-generation Viper would be offered with an aluminum-block HEMI® V8 that would, like the Charger and Challenger, be offered with different levels of performance. It’s suggested that this could range from 550 horsepower at the base to 700 horsepower or more in what would ostensibly be the second-generation Hellcat engine.

Current FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne says that a new Viper is “not in the plan,” but if there’s anything that holds true in the auto industry, it’s that plans can and do change all the time. The team at Gossett CDJR is fond of the raw, unmitigated power that the fifth-generation Dodge Viper represented, and we can only hope that it will be bringing its venomous bite back to the sports car segment sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, if you’re on the hunt for a performance car, look no further than the Dodge Challenger and Charger, which still stand among the most exhilarating vehicles on the road today.
